Internships & Service Learning

Internships

Internships can be done for credit and/or experience. It is a great way to learn about the environment, the structure of nonprofits and the needs of our community. Internships are geared towards your experience and interests in order to maximize your time with us and provide needed assistance to our organization.

For Interns (university and above) we ask for a commitment of a minimum of 10 hours a week. High School Interns are asked to commit to 4-8 hours per week. We can be flexible with the length of the internship, but for the most valuable experience we suggest no less than a semester.

Benefits of Internships:

  • Build networking contacts
  • Develop strong team work skills
  • Exercise individual responsibility
  • Gain valuable work experience

Service Learning

Service Learning allows students to increase their environmental knowledge and gain valuable community experience.  Service Learner positions are geared towards students who are looking to integrate their course material with experiences in the community while creating student/community partnerships. KGMB will work with your interests and needs to find a project that fits you.

For Service Learners (university) we adapt to the hours requirements of your specific course, typically 10-15 hours total. Service Learners in elementary, middle and high school commit whatever time is necessary for their service, no minimum of hours.

Benefits of Service Learning:

  • Develop strong ties to the community
  • Explore various career pathways
  • Develop important personal and social skills
  • Improve higher order thinking skills
